Level-up! No more selfies, please.

I trust the megapixel count of my iPhone just as much as you do for a selfie. A good outstretched left-arm with the phone extended angling down on your face. I am sure you know how this works. Sorry, I am too cool to use a selfie stick, but I could see how they come in handy.

Let’s face it. Taking selfies has become increasingly dangerous. Be careful about taking a step back and watch where you’re going. So, for your safety and mine, please leave photos intended for marketing use with a trained professional. POP QUIZ! Do you remember this classic shot with Hillary Clinton in the background being used as a prop?

How many selfies can you count?

If you want to take the next step, you have to get professional, color-corrected headshots. I know it probably sounds intimidating, but it’s not, and you will love the results. Think of a professional headshot as a selfie on steroids! If you love looking at yourself, imagine looking at you from the eye of a trained professional.

In my experience, you can get good quality photos from a professional for as little as $250 for a few hours, a wardrobe change, and a location. Yes, a headshot can cost thousands of dollars, but that isn’t necessary unless you are auditioning for Hollywood. If done correctly, you can use a headshot for several years.

Be sure to make the most of your photoshoot session.

  • Select smart wardrobe changes to get different styles at the same time.
  • Don’t wear anything too “loud”; you should be the star of the image, not your clothes or jewelry.
  • Have an idea of how you want to pose beforehand. This will help things go a lot smoother at your shoot and save you time with the hourly rate you are likely paying for. WARNING, all photographers are not great at giving directions.
  • Select an appropriate backdrop for your shoot. If all else fails, a white background will work just fine! You can always photoshop something in the background to fit your needs.
  • Make sure the images are color corrected and look like you. No one wants to look too red in a photo.
  • Make sure you retain your raw images. If a photographer does not agree to this, find someone else.
  • Consider bringing someone with a critical eye who will provide feedback on site. Once the shoot is over, it’s over.

Why am I spending so much time talking about this? Headshots are one of the first things we are sure to have on file for our clients. As we develop your marketing strategy and plan, we want to ensure your best face is ready for the world. If you wish to have next-level results, you have to spend a few dollars taking next-level actions.

I dare you to leave a comment with the number of selfies you have on your phone right now.
